Sofie
First assignment for photography class: Make a portrait
It’s always fun to start easy of course, I’m guessing this exercise is meant to give the instructor a starting point for his lessons and first view into everyone’s starting capabilities.
Model is my ever wonderfull wife, Sofie.
Technical
- 1 Speedlight 430EX in silver brolly on camera left set to manual at 1/16
DIY Gelled Snoot
Because I wanted to do the classic smoke-shot I was in need of cheap snoot that would fit on my Speedlight 430EX or my Vivitar 285H. Since DIY is mostly the cheapest way to get something done, I browsed the net for a nice tutorial on HOW to build one.
After having consulted the Search-Guru-Google I came up with this blogpost by
Next up on my TO-DO list: DIY Grid Snoot
This is the result of my hard work:

Canon AE1
First attempt at multiple exposures.
Model: Analog Canon AE1 with 50mm 1.8
Technical
- Vivitar 285 HV with blue gel for background
- 430EXII for about 3-5 exposures at 1/64 in combination with piece of printing paper to simulate softbox-effect
- Black velvet as floor and black cotton as backdrop
HTC 4350

I love to experiment with my (remote) strobe(s) and my softbox. This time it was my thrusty HTC phone that appeared before my lens. I think the shot turned out ok.
Technical
I used a 40x40cm softbox with red backdrop inside.
1 VIVITAR 285H at 1/16 to the left.
Appearantly the VIVITAR flash is still quite powerfull at 1/16 when you’re going for an aperture of 5.0 (Because I wanted the shallow DOF) so I had to user 4 layers of white translucent material to lower the lightintensity.
