MMA Shooting Day
Enige tijd terug werd ik uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan een shoot-dag van het Marquise Model Agency op een kleine manege in Aspelare. MMA zorgde voor de modellen en visagisten en wij kregen heel de dag vrij spel om ons “ding” te doen. Het was die dag om en bij de 30° buiten en dan is het toch vermoeiend en zwaar werken, gelukkig waren de resultaten zeer bevredigend!
Strobist @ Stassenbos
Vorige zondag was ik aanwezig bij de maandelijkse strobist meeting, die deze keer doorging op een verlaten militair domein in het Stassenbos te Tongerlo. Een van de deelnemers had een prachtige set militaire props bij en daarvan hebben we goed gebruik gemaakt.
Ik ben zeer tevreden met de resultaten en stel ze graag aan u voor:

De Therminal
Enkele weken terug woonde ik de strobist meetup bij in de Therminal in Gent. De Therminal is een oude elektriciteitscentrale die omgebouwd is tot studentenhuis voor de Gentse studenten. Het is een moderne omgeving die een beetje breekt met onze traditie van urbex locaties maar voor een keer mag dat wel. Het haalt tenslotte je creativiteit naar boven en daar draait het allemaal om.
De eerste resultaten zijn binnen en ik wou u die niet onthouden.

Ravenhof
Eind december had ik de mogelijkheid om met Paul D’Aubioul een fotoshoot te houden in het Ravenhof te Stabroek. Paul zorgde voor de locatie en de modellen, en verder was het carte blanche. Het hoeft niet gezegd dat ik dan helemaal in mijn element ben. Het was een korte shoot, 3 uurtjes maar, en ze vlogen ontzettend snel voorbij maar de resultaten kunnen mij wel bekoren:

Vorig weekend had ik het genoegen om 2 model tergelijkertijd voor mijn lens te krijgen. De twee zusjes hadden graag enkele mooie, heldere foto’s van zichzelf gehad voor verschillende doeleinden (bv. Kerstkaartje, cadeautjes, herinneringen etc…).
Ik ben momenteel halfweg het post-processing proces en ik dacht dat ik jullie misschien een kleine sneak-peek kon aanbieden van de resultaten.
Strobist Meetup @ Citadelpark
De strobist meet-up voor oktboer was normaal gepland op een militaire airstrip in Ursel, maar door omstandigheden is deze locatie geannulleerd op het laatste nippertje en dus zijn we moeten terugvallen op onze backup locatie: Het Citadelpark te Gent. De groep bestond uit 15 fotografen en 5 modellen, dit creëerde toch wel een kleine menigte.
We verdeelden onszelf in groepjes om op zoek te gaan naar onze creatieve alter ego terwijl we experimenteerden met reportageflitsers en omgevingslicht.
De resultaten komen zachtjes aan binnen gedruppeld op de flickr groep maar hier zijn alvast mijn resultaten:
Fashion shoot
Vorige week ging de fotograaf-les over “mode-fotografie” en dus had ik enkele vrienden gevraagd om mij als model te vergezellen. Ze waren hiertoe meteen bereid en de resultaten tot dusver zijn gewoon geweldigd. Ik wil ze graag even met jullie delen:
De Nieuwe Molens
Last week I had an impromptu photosession ‘just for fun’ with a good friend of mine in some abandoned industrial building in Ghent. The shoot only took 2 hours but I like the results a lot.
My gratitude goes to Sandra who was willing to pose for me in such a dirty location and her husband Karel who proved to be an able assistant during the shoot.

Last sunday I organised a strobist meeting in Doel, probably one of the last times we’ll be able to go there. The meeting was a huge success and contrary to the last meeting there was an abundancy of models to work with. FYI: 6 photographers and 8 models to choose from…

Jana
So, remember in last post I expressed my joy about having a new toy? Now I finally got to play around with it and I must say that I’m in love. This lens is so clear, so crisp and sharp. The range and resulting bokeh are awesome and the stabilizer gives me 3-4 stops on my shutter speed \o/
First one of the bat to get in front of it is my niece Jana who claimed that the only good pictures of her are the ones she takes herself. I of course argued that point so we got out to the backyard to prove that I too can make a good picture of her.

Strobist meetup Deinze III
Last one in the series (for now at least). Since we had 6 photographers on the scene and only one model, we came up with the brilliant idea to just ask one of the parc visitors if they were interested to model for us, and apparantly we look really thrustworthy because the first person we asked immediately agreed to work with us.

Today I attended the monthly strobist meetup organised by the Belgum Strobist Group. As always we had a lot of fun, learned a lot from/to each other and created some wonderful art in the progress.
Here’s the first batch of images that’s been processed. Due to a lack of models we used Tuffer as a stand-in, which proved to be a very good choice.
Lighting setup for these shots was a beauty dish to camera left, slightly above the subject.

Doel II
I had some busy days at work and my evenings are also packed full but I managed to finish some shots from the Doel photosession.

Doel I
After letting my camera gather dust for the first half of summer I decided that it was time to kick everything back into gear. I started missing my camera and doing what I love so after some gentle pushes by my wife I setup a shoot in the half-abandoned village of Doel. My models for the day where my niece Sarah and her boyfriend Sven. The shoot was ment as practice and fun but it turned out to be very refreshing and it made me realise how much I had missed going out to shoot.
So here a few shots from the shoot, more will follow and I hope to get a few more shoots before the baby arrives.

Strobist Meet-up Dadipark (part 1)
Yesterday I attended my very first “Strobist Meetup”-experience. And it was totally awesome! We had a great location, shooting in the old abandoned “Dadipark” entertainment park. The models where very easygoing and made this a really memorable experience. My gratitude goes out to my fellow photographers who tought me so much. Working together with a model and another photographer really opens up your view on shooting on location.
And a final “thank you!” to Sam for organizing all of this!

14 Weeks
My wife is 14 weeks in her pregnancy now and her belly is starting to show some curves. We’re gonna try to make these shots at a regular basis in order to have a nice series to look back on when it’s over.
I’m gonna be a dad! YAY!

I was post-processing some of my test shots with the Canon 50mm 1.8 when I discovered this beauty. As always I tried out different settings but I can’t decide which one I prefer. Let me know what you think.

Classic Portrait lighting
Yesterday we learned how to create a “Classic Portrait Studio Lighting” setup and we tried out some different ratios to get a practical view of the situation. Below is the setup we used and the contact sheet (click for larger view)
