Meet the make-up artist – Part 3

Fetishist

Our third and last setup was a little more daring than the last two. We tried to change the lovely sweet Sofie into an sadistic nurse. Appearantly it is very hard to make a ‘vicious’ photograph of Sofie. Even with all that make-up and blood on her face, she still looks sweet; I think she deserves a medal for trying so hard to be something she’s not, just to please me :)

Again Martine did a great job at painting Sofie and helping me find the right artistic feel I needed. I just had to utter the words blood and scalpel or she would be on her way of finding both of them and adding them to the setup.

This is the last post about this shoot and I want to take the oportunity to thank both Martine for her help and creative input that made this shoot work, and my beautiful wife Sofie for her willingness to spend hours in the make-up chair just to help me out. Thank you both very much!

Meet the make-up artist – Part 2

Walter
One of the things I wanted to try out was a kind of raw, metal, industrial look. I kindly asked my make-up artists husband, Walter, if he was willing to let his wife turn him into a zombie and pose for me, and he was happy to help.
I figure I might have to use a bigger DOF next time, one of my weaknesses, but I think it turned out pretty good after all.

Meet the make-up artist – Part 1

blog-_mg_0783-edit

Last weekend we had a ‘date’ with a friend of Sofie who happens to be a skilled make-up artist. What an exquisite chance to try out some new things. This was a very educative experience for both me, as a photographer, and for Martine, the make-up artist, who got to release her wildest fantasies on Sofie’s face.

I set up my basic gear in their living room while Martine was working on our first project: “The kitchen princess”. Armed with some kitchen utilities and a suit-case of brushes and color patches she went to work to transform Sofie into a regular kitchen princess.
When she was finished we quickly tested the light and ripped off a few dozen shots.

After which we had the crazy idea to rap our beautiful model up in silver wrapping paper.. It has a strange, alien-like look to it, but me likes :D
