Strobist meetup Deinze I
Today I attended the monthly strobist meetup organised by the Belgum Strobist Group. As always we had a lot of fun, learned a lot from/to each other and created some wonderful art in the progress.
Here’s the first batch of images that’s been processed. Due to a lack of models we used Tuffer as a stand-in, which proved to be a very good choice.
Lighting setup for these shots was a beauty dish to camera left, slightly above the subject.
[UPDATE] Added 1 more picture of this series because it fits here.
Strobist Meet-up Dadipark (part 1)
Yesterday I attended my very first “Strobist Meetup”-experience. And it was totally awesome! We had a great location, shooting in the old abandoned “Dadipark” entertainment park. The models where very easygoing and made this a really memorable experience. My gratitude goes out to my fellow photographers who tought me so much. Working together with a model and another photographer really opens up your view on shooting on location.
And a final “thank you!” to Sam for organizing all of this!
Subject of the first series is Richard. Enjoy!
Portrait in work environment
One of the assignments for school is a portrait in work environment. Yesterday I had the chance to take a few shots that qualify for this and I thought I’d share this.
Take a look and let me know what you think.
Nico
My first time with Nico and I have to say he is an easy model to work with, give him clues all over the place and he’ll execute with asking questions.
Medium softbox camera right and medium softbox camera left far behind me for fill. Gridded strobe on backdrop for separation.
Tone
We finally managed to get our teacher at Syntra to appear in front of the lens and he was a huge success!
Medium softbox camera right op high.
Pascal
Pascal needed some corporate pictures for his website, I don’t know wether or not this one will make it but it’s still a great picture IMO.
2 medium softboxes on either side of the model and one gridded strobe on the black backdrop for separation.
Kristof 3
Playing with clamshell lighting again, this time with a male model.
Medium softbox above and below subject on camera axis.
Tom
You wouldn’t expect it when seeing this shot of my classmate Tom, but he’s quite a vivid, kinetic model who’s not afraid to use any props he may encounter during his camera moment. If was fun, we should do it again sometime
Setup:
1 Large softbox from camera-left with black backdrop
Kristof 2
Taken at photography class when working on b/w portraits. The model in this case is a fellow student, Kristof. If this class doesn’t work out for him he can always start a career as a professional model IMO.
Enjoy.
Setup for this one is a large softbox camera right, a smaller softbox camera-left and a grid spit behind him on the black backdrop for separation.

DPS Contest – Follow Up
Digital Photography School contest I entered are in! Sadly I did not finish among the first three, but I’m still real glad I entered
This has been an enormous learning school for me and I’m happy with all the new exciting things I’ve experienced while working on this shot.
They always say “competing is better than winning” – although winning can be fun from time to time.
Tobias

Fun at the beach. This guy should be a professional model

RAW

Another shot of Walter during the “Meet the make-up artist” – shoot. This time with heavy post-processing to get a very dark and raw effect. (click for larger view)
Hope you like it.
Snake Eyes

Here’s another shot from the series, with different post-processing obviously.
This is also my entry for the Digital Photography School contest on portraits.

Meet the make-up artist – Part 2

One of the things I wanted to try out was a kind of raw, metal, industrial look. I kindly asked my make-up artists husband, Walter, if he was willing to let his wife turn him into a zombie and pose for me, and he was happy to help.
I figure I might have to use a bigger DOF next time, one of my weaknesses, but I think it turned out pretty good after all.
